An electrical plug is a common electrical fitting with two or three metal prongs for inserting in a fixed socket. The fitting is used for connecting an appliance to a power supply. These male electrical connectors fit into female electrical sockets and having contacts in the form of pins or blades which connect mechanically and electrically to holes or slots in the socket.

Design
Electrical plugs usually have three contacts ie. a live or hot contact, a neutral contact, and an optional earth or ground contact. While certain plugs have no distinction between the live and neutral contacts, others have two live contacts. These contacts are made with brass, tin or nickel plating.
